The people behind the show
Jack Murtha
Co-Host
Jack has covered everything from addiction to innovation, always through the people at the heart of the story. He’s the bestselling co-author of Dead Wrong, a co-founder of Map Change, and a former writer for the Columbia Journalism Review, the Bergen Record, and many New Jersey news outlets. He’s appeared on NPR and other broadcasts and has served as editor of two health-tech sites. After graduating from Columbia Journalism School, he led research into media brands and trust in the digital age.
Tom Castles
Co-Host
Tom is the co-author of Dead Wrong, a bestselling book about healthcare misinformation, the former editor of six industry publications, and a co-founder of an agency called Map Change. At each stop, he’s pushed his reporters to put human faces on complicated stories. After cutting his teeth in local journalism, Tom now cuts his fingers on his guitar, writing music for this very show.
Christie Chisholm
Executive Producer
Christie comes by way of the Columbia Journalism Review, where she shaped the storied magazine’s daily and long-form coverage as senior editor. Reporters under her care have gone on to publish in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, and beyond. Before graduating with a master’s in science journalism from Columbia, she led Albuquerque, New Mexico’s alt-weekly as its first woman editor-in-chief and the youngest person to ever hold the job.
George Steptoe
Sound Engineer
George is a seasoned multimedia journalist whose work has been viewed tens of millions of times, in places like The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, Hulu, FX, and Amazon Prime. Most recently, he was a producer on the Emmy Award-winning news show Axios on HBO. A writer-turned-documentarian, George brings an eye for detail and narrative grit to his journalism. No surprise, then, that his work has been an official selection for the prestigious DOC NYC and a Vimeo Staff Pick.
Wynn Hansen
Head of Growth
Wynn is a media operator who’s spent his career in and around healthcare—from SmartBrief to Future to MJH Life Sciences and Conexiant—launching new publications and products, and building the revenue and go-to-market infrastructure behind them. A proud graduate of Juniata College, Wynn is now putting that experience to work getting Commons off the ground.
